Development Shell Policy
MSJC will provide one development (DEV) shell per course prep (example BIO-100) regardless of modality (online/hybrid/on-campus) or format. We recommend creating all the content that will be used across modalities/formats in one DEV shell and then organizing the content in your DEV shell so it can easily be copied into your live course(s) using the Select Specific Content course import tool. This recommendation is based on our overall storage requirements and the number of "non-instructional/indirect instruction" courses we maintain as a district. If you need assistance or recommendations for organizing content for different modalities/formats in one development shell, you can schedule an appointment with an instructional design specialist, and they can assist you.
Similarly, MSJC does not provide DEV shells for potential, or unassigned course preps (unless it is a new course added to the catalog) as we don't want to create "orphan" courses that are taking up storage space. MSJC can provide you with a DEV shell for courses as soon as courses for the corresponding term are released in Canvas.
