Respondus Lockdown Browser is a special software that provides a more secure environment when administering quizzes within Canvas. The feature needs to be enabled in the Canvas course before it can be used. Follow the instructions below to enable the Respondus Lockdown Browser feature in your course. NOTE: Please refrain from using the Monitor feature as it is not supported by District recommendations for student privacy.
To enable within your Canvas course, from the Course Navigation Menu, select Settings
From the settings page, select the Navigation tab
On the Navigation tab, Drag or move the LockDown Browser option from the hidden area to the visible section and then select Save.
The LockDown Browser area will now appear in the Course Navigation Menu. Select LockDown Browser from the menu
If this is the first time using respondus in the course, you will need to authorize the app first. Select Authorize.
This will launch the LockDown Browser admin page where you can set which previously created canvas quizzes will use the LockDown browser. Select the drop down option next to the title of the quiz with which you plan to use LockDown browser and then choose Settings.
Settings will appear. Choose the Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam option. Consider additional settings available. When complete, select Save + Close
This will enable the LockDown browser functionality on that specific quiz.
Note: Students will need to download the LockDown browser to their personal computer. When they access the quiz it will provide instructions on how to install LockDown browser. On the Getting Started tab in the LockDown browser admin page, it provides instructions to share with students for classic quizzes. It is recommended you share this with students as well. Computers at the MSJC Learning Resource Center also have the Lockdown browser installed.
